Trent Seigfried

Trent Seigfried is the data engineering team manager at Clever Real Estate. He uses his background in personal finance, data analysis, and data engineering to discover deep insights into the real estate market and how those insights apply in a practical way to people buying and selling homes.

Prior to joining Clever, Trent was the founder of The Simple Dollar, an online publication focused on personal finance with a personal touch, and was the chief contributor to The Simple Dollar from 2006 to 2021. The Simple Dollar reached millions of visitors a month with practical personal finance advice with a personal touch. In addition, his writing has appeared in Business Insider, Lifehacker, and many other publications.

Prior to The Simple Dollar, Trent spent six years as a systems and data analyst and software developer for the Maize Genomics Database, honing his data analysis and software development skills in the world of plant genetics. During that time, he published several academic research papers in the plant genetics domain.

Trent graduated from Iowa State University with a B.S. in computer science and a B.S. in biology.
