At first seemed very welcoming and then turned to being dismissive. I am writing to share a concerning experience I recently had with John Farrell, Associate Broker and agent at Exit Realty Homeward Bound. As someone new to the house buying market, I rarely raise complaints about poor service; however, this situation warrants serious attention.Initially, I identified a multi-family house listed in Binghamton that fit within my budget. After submitting an offer on this property, it was swiftly taken off the market, yet Mr. Farrell, who was the listing agent, failed to respond to my offer or provide any communication whatsoever. Subsequently, I discovered the property was in foreclosure, a critical detail that Mr. Farrell neglected to inform either me or my agent.Undeterred, I moved on to explore another similar property, only to find that John Farrell was again the listing agent. Placing my trust in the hope of better communication, I submitted another offer. Two weeks passed without any response from Mr. Farrell or anyone in his office. My agent relayed that even the office assistant had been unable to reach him. In today's world—2025—where almost everyone carries an electronic device, such extended silence and lack of communication are unacceptable. To those who have had positive experiences with Exit Realty Homeward Bound, I acknowledge and respect your opinions. However, personal experience has demonstrated a troubling lack of consistency and professionalism in this instance. It is imperative that businesses maintain high standards of service, especially when they hold active status and deal with clients entrusting them with significant financial decisions.Mr. Farrell failed to update the listing status to appropriately reflect the seller's position—whether under contract (U status) or pending sale (P status)—thus leaving prospective buyers thinking listing is still looking for a buyer.I urge anyone searching for properties in the Binghamton, NY area to exercise caution with the Exit Realty Homeward Bound. If you have any similar experiences, transparency and accountability within the real estate community needs to be shared.

I needed to find a home quickly. What I didn’t need was an agent who was representing me in possible home purchase would rush me through viewings of homes I chose. I never got enough time and when I opened my mouth I was cut off. At 70 years of age, and this desire to purchase a home a home my absolute 1st, I need a realtor I can confide in, that will actually listen to me, and not rush me! I’m still looking but I’ll have to find another agent that’s a bit more laid back, open to conversation and over 10 minute walk throughs.

I have met with John on 2 occasions. The 1st, 10 years ago and the 2nd, a few weeks ago. The reason why I sought him out, 10 years later, is the same reason why I want to do business with him now. John is honest and straight-forward. He has advised me, at times, to walk away from a property. He has, always, seemed to have my best interest at heart. I have read all the reviews that were posted and the negative posts seem like they are rating a different person than I have met. John took the time to explain, guide and teach. He never pressured me or spoke to me in an arrogant many. His sense of humor is dry and if you don't pay attention, you could miss it. He has been in the business for over 30 years, so he must be doing something right. I trust his opinion and I believe he takes that seriously. I would never have a reservation in recommending John to anyone looking for knowledge, honesty and integrity in a Real Estate Professional.

HIGHLY RECOMMEND John Farrell. I traveled three hours to review a property. As a Buyers Agent, John was on time, very professional, courteous and proactive in my search for a multi use location. He provided me with various MLS data sheets, tax maps and related materials to better inform me of my options. John even suggested another property that we visited which may be more suitable for me.

In the past two years we have bought two houses through John. We couldn't have asked for better service. He showed us so many houses and was so patient with my somewhat high maintenance boyfriend. With this most recent purchase there was a zoning issue we thought might kill the deal immediately. Within a couple hours John had za zoning official there for an inspection and the issue resolved in ten minutes! Love John and his whole staff.

Listed and sold a home • Vestal, NY • 2017
My wife and I purchased a piece of real estate in 2004 and almost immediately put the property back on the market, as my job opportunity dissipated. Between 2004 and 2017, we retained the services of three real estate agents to sell the property. Over the years, we heard all the excuses: nobody is building houses, there is an abundance of existing housing, the price is to high, on and on. We retained John and his team on March 10, 2017 and we closed on the sale of the property on May 5, 2017 for more that what we were asking. John and Cat kept us up to date weekly, so there were no surprises. We only wish we found John and his team years ago!

Listed and sold a home • Greene, NY • 2016
John sold a home for me years ago, he was very involved in the whole process and kept me informed. I naturally retained his services for the second home sale, John had very little involvement, terribly stressful experience for me, obviously the structure of his business has changed since my last dealings with this company. Transaction Coordinator handle all details up to the closing, my opinion was the coordinator provided poor advice, inaccurate information and really seemed to be trying to negotiate at the benefit of the buyer vs my best interest.........I am out of state, never heard anything from John or Coordinator after closing, as if transaction never occurred......Obviously their only interest was revenue based........Thank Goodness I retained my own Legal Representative to handle my interest in the situation. My personal opinion of the services I was provided made me feel like my team was working for the Buyer vs the Seller.

John and Cat at Exit Reality were great to work with. We were first time home buyers and the process seemed large, drawn out and confusing. However, John and the team at Exit did a great job going step by step through the process, answered all of our questions, sometimes multiple times if we still did not completely understand, and we closed about 30 days after we put in our offer. We truly feel like we had an all star team working with us for this transaction. HIGHLY recommend!

None. We connected, but it did not work out. • Vestal, NY • 2015
Thinks he knows it all but really just wants a quick sale. I asked to be show some what he felt were comps to my house that I was listing so I was sure I was listing at the best price - a price that would allow me to sell fairly quickly yet get me the most money. The houses he compared mine to where not even close - I don't know if he even looked at them before giving to me. In the end, I listed with a different agent and company. Sale price was more then $15,000 over what he wanted to list it at and sold in 22 days.
